Trachycarpus Fortunei (Chusan Palm)
Trachycarpus Fortnei is also known as The Chusan Palm. It originates from China and Japan. Trachycarpus Fortunei and Chamaerops Humilis are difficult to distinguish between but Trachycarpus Fortunei grows upright without side leaves. In Northern Europe it will not grow too high because of the buffeting effect of the wind on its top leaves. Trachycarpus Fortunei likes good light but can tolerate some shading. Trachycarpus Fortunei can withstand temperatures as low as -17 Celsius. It makes a great specimen plant in the garden with its hairy trunk and mop of fan shaped leaves on top. It likes a well drained soil and will respond well to regular applications of manure. Trachycarpus Fortunei is the most common temperate garden palm. It is an excellent choice for someone just starting to grow palms or starting a Mediterranean garden because of its simplicity to grow. | Plant Height (cm) | 75 | 250 |
