Strelitzia Reginae (Bird of Paradise Flower)
Strelitzia Reginae or The Bird of Paradise Flower is one of the best loved cut flowers.
It is very easy to grow. It is very suited to growing in a pot and if they are kept in a tsmall pot they will tend to flower more. Strelitzia will not grow any higher than 120 centimetres tall. It grows in a tight clump that then produces flowers in the early spring.
Strelitzia should be planted in John Innes number 3 with lots of extra grit for drainage. During its growing period the compost should be kept moist. In the winter the compost can be allowed to dry out. There is a balance to be struck between healthy foliage and flower production (too much nitrogen and you get too many leaves, too much potash for example tomato food and you don't get enough leaf growth). | Plant Height (cm) | 80 |
